Not many anglers turned up to this weeks match with the poor reports of late. The seven harden soles that turned up were: John Neave, Bob Thompson, Tony Chidwick, Dene Conway, Robert Ford, Richard Ives and our junior angler Henry Randall. We all arrived at Cley beach car park at 8:15 – 8:30 before the Norfolk Wildlife Trust (NWT) car park attendant arrived so not to pay the car parking charges. Well this was what happened in the past but not today! The attendant arrived at 8:30 and approached us looking for us to pay the charges. We explained that if we were there before him we would not have to pay. His reply was not only NO but accused us of being “know it alls” and he became rather rude and discourteous towards our club. We explained that we have fished this part of the beach and used this car park for 50 years or so we have never paid for parking. However the voluntary car park attendant did not believe anything we said, he then accused his colleages of not doing their jobs and that we have been misled. He portrayed himself as though he was the NWT – Cley site manager and lord of the land. By this time we were angry at his reaction and his attitude and the club will be sending Brendon Joyce (NWT managing director) a letter expressing our disbelief of NWT volunteers’ attitude towards the public and resolve the car parking issue so watch this space. But in the mean time the jumped up attendant told us that if we refused to pay he would record our number plates and pass the info onto a debit collection agency to retrieve the £3.50 car park fee. As a result Tony decided to move the match to kelling and said if any one wanted to make the £3.50 car park donation was welcome to on the way out.
The fishing match was… well, the weather was nice; the sea was crystal clear and flat charm. Divers and idiots on boats here there and everywhere, oh and the only sizeable fish fell to John Neave a 25cm dab. Hope next weeks open is better.
