Cold, wet and miserable, flat calm sea and very little prospects of bagging up on the fish, but undetterred we had 14 anglers on the beach ready to do battle, with league placings and accumulator points at stake.

Way out in front on the accumulator was Tony “Yoda” Thomas who only had to maintain a lead and and hope his closest rivals Dene Conway,Richard Ives & Sam Attew would not find a big bag of fish, he also was aiming to push up and overtake Tony Chidwick for the league final placings.

As it turned out Tony found the fish straight off along with Peter Loke and Ian Gedney and it seemed to be a 3 horse race, with Peter hooking into a nice codling very early on to put the pressure on Tony and everyone who saw him land it.

The whole field struggled with Richard Ives walking the distance to try and find an elusive big flounder or two, and even more frustrating was to see a pleasure angler next to him pull in a 39cm flounder.

At the end of the match it was relativley new member Ian ” I found the fish” Gedney who took the top spot on the day with an impressive 8 fish for a total of 2lb 6oz going to show being in the right spot at the right time can pay dividends. 2nd place went to Peter Loke who just managed to stave off Tony Thomas by a 1/3 of an ounce with 5 fish for 2lb 4 1/3oz including that codling, leaving Tony on 2lb 4oz for 7 fish just scraping in to the frame was Richard Ives who magaed to find 2 fish with one of them being a good flounder to give him 1lb 2oz just denying Henry Randell of a podium spot who finished with 4 fish for 1lb exactly.

The Winter Accumulator final placings were very tight from 2nd place down to 4th, but it was 2 fish that kept Dene Conway in 2nd place behind Tony Thomas with Richard Ives in 3rd and Sam Attew in 4th place.

The Final standings in the league table were also decided today, Richard was impossible to catch wayout on 230pts before this match but the next 4 places were very close so everyone had to put in a good performance.In the end however it was Sam Attew taking 2nd place with a total of 184pts 58 pts behind Richard on 242pts, joint third place went to Dene Conway and John Neave who have had a good tussle in the last few matches so only fair they end up drawing both on 177pts. Tony Thomas’s efforts to get into 4th place and beat Tony Chidwick were thwarted today with Tony Chidwick doing enough to secure a joint 4th place with Tony Thomas both on 160pts.

Very well done to all members , escpecially to those who are in their first season with the club, and we look forward to seeing you all at the AGM and presentation night,and of course back on the beaches for the new season.
