The second match of the season again saw a good turnout of 18 members, including the return of Ivan Allen an old school member from previous years. Keeping in with the current flexibility of the club it was decided to peg to the left and to the right of the carpark giving everyone the option of which side they wanted to fish. With an even split for both sides we settled down to try and find the fish. It was bright and sunny with a slight bump on the water from the cold NE wind which had us a little worried that fishing would be slower than usual if that was at all possible.
Word filtered down the ranks that the left hand side was fishing well and Simon "Tackle Whore" Farrow already had 5 fish to his name and Tony "Yoda" Thomas only had 3, at the opposite end things were a little different with the first couple of hours proving to be the worst it was only Pam Carter who managed to find a couple of Dabs early on at close quarters on lug tipped with mackeral. Paul "Scoop" Fenech then started to find the fish seemingly one every chuck and started to leave the rest of the pack wondering how…., Peter "Inspector" Morse was also finding a few along with Dene "Smooth" Conway and John Carter, the tussle hotted up in the last hour with Paul on 83 points and Dene on 77pts, with 15 minutes remaining Dene took the lead thanks to an undersize dab giving him a valuable 3 points equaling a total of 104 to Paul’s 103. With everything riding on the last cast between these two it was Paul who managed to find one more fish at range to clinch victory over Dene with 114pts but would it be enough to beat the anglers to the left.
As it turned out Simon and Jock Goudie were also having their own battle to the left and they ended equal on 80pts but it wasn’t enough to take the top spots from Paul Fenech & Dene Conway.
Everyone managed to catch a few fish and yet again we see different names in the frame, who’s turn will it be next week??
