Kelling 2nd January 2011
The first Holt SAC open of 2011 and as usual fished at Kelling where recently the fishing has been consistent with plenty of dabs and flounders around if you know how to fish this venue.
Typically yet again the weather played its part with NW winds roughing the sea up and as usual the fish did not want to play in these conditions, from 28 anglers fishing 16 of us managed to save the blank with the rest enjoying some friendly banter and sitting around each others shelters.
All in all 27 fish were caught and returned alive and it was that old veteran Dick Able finding 3 flats for 1lb 12oz to take top spot.
2nd place went to a first time podium finish for Chris”Running Man”Burgess also with 3 flats for 1lb 7 1/3oz.
3rd place went to another old sea dog Tony”Yoda”Thomas who proved he hasn’t lost his mojo with 3 fish for 1lb 2oz and a welcome return to the frame for him.
Joint 4th place went to Mike”Last Cast”Watts and John Carter who both managed a single good flounder each to save the blank.
Section A was also a joint podium spot with Dene”Smoooth”Conway and Mark Gooch, Dene with 3 fish and Mark with 2 both for 10 1/3oz.
Section B went to Martin”Dingit”Waters also with 3 fish for 9oz.
No round fish were caught so the prize money was added to the heaviest flat and that was shared between 4 anglers with flounders at 31cm a piece.
A good raffle afterwards and some more friendly banter ended the day on a high and thanks again to everyone who supported the open.
