The last two matches have been combined with annual opens the first being the Tackle X Change open at Kelling on 19th December and the 2nd being the Rocket House Open at Salthouse on 27th December, both matches were organised by Tony Thomas Holts chairman and all members who fished their points will go into overrall league table and of course the trophies allocated to each individual event.
Lets come to the Tackle X Change Open 13 anglers attended this event which was pegged to the right of the car park, conditions were favorable and we were not dissappointed with everyone managing to find good dabs and flounders. A deserved win went to Martin (Dingit) Waters who after a long spell away from this neck of the woods showed he still has what it takes with an impressive 19 fish for 4lb 2oz. 2nd place went to Mark Gooch who also fished well for 13 fish for 3lb 12oz, third place went to Paul (Tubbs) Tovell who was just pipped into 3rd in the last few casts also with 13 fish for 3lb 9oz.
The club results look a little different with the top 3 overrall not being club members this means that that man again Paul “Scoop” Fenech took first place with 13 fish for 2lb 13 2/3oz closely followed by a back in form Dene “Smoooth” Conway with 12 fish for 2lb 12, 3rd place went to veteran angler John Carter with 4 fish for 1lb 3 1/3oz and the 4th and 5th places went to Dick Able with 5 fish for 15 2/3oz and Tony Thomas with 4 fish for 10oz.

Next up was the Rocket House Open fished every year at Salthouse which also combines the Janet waller Cup for all club members.Turn out for this event was poorer than in previous years with many anglers still recovering from the Christmas festivities no doubt. As usual this event was a catch and release to length only so with no conversions to worry about it was pureley down to the amounts of fish you could catch and who said length doesn’t matter?
Th match was fished to the left of the car park almost as far as the iron workings, everyone seemed to be catching from the off, apart from Mike Watts who couldn’t find a fish until his last two casts of the match but he was rewarded with the heaviest flatfish of the day.
Word spread along the line that Henry “Frosty” Randell was doing well and was almost at 300cm in length and everyone else seemed to be between 100cms and 200cms so it was always going to be a very tight match. Up at the far end Gary Medlar on peg 1 and Dene Conway on peg 3 were having their own little battle with the lead changing hands several times throughout, both men fishing at distance and both catching consistently, but it was Gary who came out on top with 18 fish for 385cm closely behind him was Dene Conway with 18 fish for 337cm, the better flounders were drawn to Gary’s bait and this was enough to take the match overrall.
3rd place went to another veteran angler Dick Able proving he is still at the top of his game and as always a force to be reckoned with in any match. heaviest flat went to Mike Watts and heaviest round went to Paul Thorburn.
The club results were worked out after the open as HSAC rules state we fish to size limits so all undersize fish were removed from the cards and the weight was calculated, which gave Dick Able the winning spot and the Janet Waller Cup, Henry Randell slipped into 2nd place and Dene Conway slips down into 3rd place.
