By Dene Conway The first club match of the season and the early autumn open were fished at Kelling this weekend, with 24 anglers registering prior to the match we decided to split the field into two sections, zone A to the left of cliffs and zone B to the right falling short of the wreck area. The full turnout was 20 anglers with 14 club members fishing for the Ken Brown Cup and everyone fishing for the £100 prize money and pools. As predicted the better fishing seemed to be more prevelant in zone A, had it not been for the efforts of Peter "BagLady" Simmons who got stuck into flounder fishing and managed an incredible 6 Flounders and two Dabs and a Bass which secured his top spot , claiming not only the £100 prize but also the Ken Brown Cup, eyes will be on Peters performance in the coming months and see if he can continue his consistency. Second place went to the ever present Clyde Leggett who showed good form again managing 7 fish only 2 behind Peter. Third place and a surprise for many including her partner Simon, was Sherry " Giz a Fag" Murray, making her second appearance as an HSAC Club member and showing that the girls can outfish the boys, her tally was 5 fish with a good Bass of 1lb 2 1/3 oz, this Bass also gave her the heaviest round prize and forced her to take the girls and a devastated Simon to Mcdonalds to spend her winnings, well done to Sherry for a great performance and I am sure our other lady members will rise to the challenge in future matches. Fourth place went to Paul Thorburn who was making his debut as an HSAC member and did exceptionally well with 6 fish for a total of 2lb 9oz, its always good to see new members doing well. The winner of zone A was Peter "Sandy Coke" Loke with 7 fish for 2lb 6 1/3oz, closely followed by Kieth Morley with 5 fish for 2lb 5 2/3oz. Zone B fist place went to Colin " Mr Grumpy" Howard with 5 fish for 1lb 7 2/3oz, he also managed to win a bottle of scotch in the raffle so maybe he now needs a new nickname?? Second place in zone B went to John Lacey with 5 fish for 1lb 7 1/3oz, very close indeed. Heaviest Flat went to Peter Simons with a nice flounder of 32cm 0lb 13 1/3oz Heaviest Round went to Sherry Murray with a nice Bass of 1lb 2 1/3oz. Lets hope next weeks match at Trimmingham produces the goods and sees some of our other members returning to fish.
