Presidents Cup Weybourne 8th November

By Dene Conway

Clear skys and perfect conditions at Weybourne for the Presidents Cup match, 12 anglers ventured out tonite in the search of Whiting and possibly Codling, most of the members fished slightly to the left of the carpark with the exceptions being Richard "Golden Bollox" Ives, who decided to gamble and go to the right, Tony "Yoda" Thomas , Dene "Smoooth" Conway and Henry "The Gladiator" Randell all headed towards the wreck area.

Catches were consistent for most from the off and with the new pipes now on the beach, Peter "Sandy Coke" Loke and Dick "The Biz" Able set about either side of this possible new fish attraction, the rest of the field spread out back towards the carpark, it became apparrant early on that Dabs would be the mainstay of the action, and we could only hope the Whiting would appear as darkness fell.

Henry Randell started off at a blistering pace with Dab after Dab and an hour into the match he was cruising at 138pts with Tony Thomas close behind on 70 – 80 points, but Dene was struggling to find the fish and had only one solitary Dab, it was time for a change of tactics or be left behind. The wreck offered the best chances of larger fish and with this in mind he targetted the larger Pouting to catch up to Henry and Tony.

This proved to be an interesting battle which saw Tony playing catch up in the end to Dene and Henry as these two continued swapping the lead and in the dying seconds it was Henry who came out on top with 361pts to Dene’s 350pts, a very enjoyable battle giving Henry a long awaited 1st place with 7lb 8 2/3oz to Dene’s 7lb 4 2/3oz, and 6lb 1oz to give 3rd place to Tony.

Simon "The tactician" Farrow and Sherry "Giz a Fag" Murray battled it out with Dick Able and Peter Loke with Peter coming out on top to grasp 4th place overrall, with Dick running up into 5th ,Simon just beat Sherry again to claim 6th and 7th place respectively.

Meanwhile Sam "The Hat" Attew and partner in crime John "Silverfox" Neave were having their own battle which ended with both on 106pts for 2lb 3 1/3oz., giving them a joint 8th place finish.

Further along the shingle Bob Thompson and Russell Barber were finding the fishing slower but Bob just managed to grab the lead away from Russell by 1pt for 1lb 6oz with Russell on 1lb 5 2/3oz.

Unfortunatly Richards gamble to the right didn’t pay off but he managed 4 fish for 0lb 13oz. All in all a very enjoyable outing with everyone managing to find the fish but without a doubt proving that the wreck area will often outfish the rest of the shingle.
