Salthouse 12th Sept. 2010

With 8 or so members away we were not sure of the turnout for the first match of the season, however with 3 new members joining we did manage a good showing of 15 anglers, so a big welcome to the new guys. As usual for this time of the year expectations were not high but with reports of early whiting and some good bass over the last few weeks we could only give it try.

First out of the starting blocks was that old devil, John "Silverfox" Neave who snuck out a dab at 21cm, in the hot zone were Paul "Scoop" Fenech and Peter "Sandy Coke" Loke , but it was Paul who drew first blood with a fish at distance, but in the end he could only manage 2 fish with Peter catching 3 to secure a lead and in the end victory with 3 fish for 0lb 14oz. 2nd place overall went to Paul Fenech with 2 fish for 0lb 6 2/3oz, the only decent fish of the day went to Russell Barber who found a flounder at 25cm giving him 3rd place overall with 0lb 5 1/3oz.

It had by now become apparent that even finding one fish was something of a miracle, with chairman and top local angler Tony Thomas blanking for probably the first time in many a season, it was down to luck and maybe a touch of skill to get any sort of points on the cards.

Nicole Conway managed an undersized fish for 3 pts tying with husband Dene "Smooth" Conway and Paul "Pablo" Thorburn for joint 5th place, but running up the rear to sneak into an equal 4th place was Simon "tacklewhore" Farrow and John "Silverox" Neave both with one solitary fish.

All in all a very poor match and we can only hope the fishing improves at Cley next week when we should see many of the regular members back as well.

For the first time we have now introduced a super pool which is purely optional and ran separate from the main club table just to spice things up a bit.

The super pools on the day had 8 members enter with Paul Fenech taking 1st place and £20 cash, Dene Conway and Paul Thorburn taking an equal 2nd place and £10 each.

11 fish were caught and returned alive.
