Salthouse 7th November 2010
14 members turned out at our latest club match at Salthouse, pegging as usual to the left the majority of anglers were in the high numbers with only 4 of us in the lower numbers which made for longer walks when measuring fish for some and also allowed a bit of drifting to try and find the fish.
The first 3 hours of the match were extremely poor with very little caught, but John Carter and Peter “Inspector” Morse had both managed good flounders one at 36cm and one at 40cm, so the hunt was on for everyone else to locate some good fish and in the last two hours everyone managed to find a few.
The lead changed several times and it was a very close result with no one knowing who would take the honours.
In the end first place went to Paul “Scoop” Fenech with 9 fish for 3lb 1 2/3oz,he could not believe he had won the match after a disastrous start and assumed others had continued catching throughout,rather than give up Paul fought hard in the last hour to find as many fish as possible and this is what makes the difference when it comes to competitive match angling, very well done.
Second place went to Tony “Last Cast” Thomas with 11 fish for 2lb 14oz,who was also scrapping hard with Peter Morse and Dene Conway, who he managed to pip in the final casts by a late double shot to push Dene “Smooth” Conway into third place also with 11 fish for 2lb 9oz, final podium spot was fought out between Dick Able and John Carter but it was John who came out on top to take 4th spot with 7 fish for 2lb 4oz, and Dick just missing out with 10 fish for 2lb 1 1/3oz.
Generally there were some cracking flounders caught all between 30cm up to the biggest at 40cm along with several sizeable bass, whiting and dabs, one undersize codling was also returned to the sea.
We also had our first beach clean during the match and well done to everyone who brought other peoples rubbish back to the HSAC rubbish collection point, lets hope this HSAC initiative will be adopted by other clubs and pleasure anglers.
82 fish were caught and returned alive.
